Education is the key that unlocks the golden door to freedom. The education programme for the homeless are envisioned to empower the urban poor, marginalized and homeless through scientific and proven teaching learning methods for the homeless.
Kolkata has one of the largest slum populations in the country with a sizeable proportion of its population living in slums as per the 2011 census. Of them , around 45% of the people have lived in slums for two generation or more. Slum population of Kolkata is a mix of people from rural districts of West Bengal and also from adjoining state of Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa etc.
